Planted on a picturesque mountainside in the southern Catskills of New York, this relaxing oasis happens to be Becky & Jake’s personal retreat from the city and serves as their home for the majority of the year. Situated on over 6 acres abutting thousands of acres of undeveloped forrest management land and cut trails for hikes off the back of the property, a scenic backdrop of nature’s beauty is framed from within by 40+ windows and skylights. With a focus on evoking a sense of calm, we opted to use moody, dark paint hues that spoke to the natural environment, such as “Dakota Woods” & “Iron Mountain,” mixed with raw materials including deep, rich walnut, leather and black metals throughout the mudroom and bedrooms. The effect is that of being in a cozy nest that hugs you and allows you to breathe easier as you unwind. Custom bleached floors create an airy effect that balances the moodiness of the bedrooms and brightens the main living spaces while taking advantage of the bountiful natural light. A series of BS/D designed furniture pieces make their debut in this space, which include the custom floating walnut desk, ebonized oak & walnut dining table, base cabinet underneath the vintage dining room bar hutch, and the main bedroom’s nightstands featuring reading detail on the drawer faces & solid walnut fabrication including the drawer interiors of all pieces.
